1. Who we are

View Pittsburgh, also known as View PGH, is operated by Bill Bara (Sole Proprietor). This policy explains how information is handled when you visit our website, create an account, submit content, contact us, or use connected features.

For privacy questions or requests, contact viewpgh@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

The information collected depends on which features you use:

  • Account information: an account identifier, name, email address, and sign-in information supplied through our authentication provider. Social sign-in providers may supply account information you authorize them to share.
  • Community information: your username, display name, neighborhood, biography, avatar, stories, comments, and related community activity.
  • Content submissions: uploaded photos or videos, titles, descriptions, location and capture-date details, coordinates if provided, contact information, review status, and records of publication or licensing consent.
  • Creator applications: your role, biography, neighborhood, social links, work samples, follower information, rates, and publication or embedding permissions.
  • Messages and requests: your name, email, organization or project details, and information you send through contact, booking, sponsorship, licensing, event, or content-report forms.
  • Transactions: information associated with license purchases, payments, earnings, and payouts when those features are used. Payment processors handle payment credentials; our records include transaction identifiers and status.
  • Technical information: IP addresses or derived identifiers, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps, and diagnostic or security logs processed by the site and its service providers.

3. How we use information

We use information to operate the website and accounts; review, publish, and license content; respond to inquiries; administer community activity and creator applications; process transactions; maintain consent and financial records; prevent abuse; troubleshoot problems; and meet legal obligations.

Where applicable, processing is based on providing a requested service, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the site, or legal obligations. You can withdraw permission for optional connected features, subject to any processing already completed and records we must retain.

4. Public profiles and submitted content

Information shown on a public profile, published story, comment, event, or approved media item can be seen, copied, and shared by others. Do not include information you want to keep private in content intended for publication.

Neighborhood forum posts and replies are public immediately after you publish them, together with the public name you choose. Signing in is required to post or reply, but does not make the discussion private. Forum discussions are separate from media submissions awaiting editorial review.

Creator applications awaiting approval are not public profiles, and private application details such as rates are not displayed as public profile fields. Publication and licensing of submitted media are also governed by the applicable submission terms and recorded permissions.

5. Facebook, Instagram, and Meta data

If an authorized administrator connects a Facebook Page or Instagram account, we may receive the account or Page identifiers, names, public profile or Page details, and permitted content such as posts, captions, publication dates, media links, and thumbnails. The information available depends on the permissions granted and Meta's APIs.

We use authorized Meta data to identify the connected account and retrieve, organize, or display its content on View PGH. Connection credentials are used to maintain authorized access and are not intentionally displayed publicly. We do not sell Meta platform data or use it for targeted advertising.

Facebook and Instagram embeds can send information about your browser, IP address, and visit to Meta and may use Meta's cookies. The Facebook Page panel is loaded when you choose to view it. Other social embeds may contact their providers when loaded.

You can revoke the app's access through Facebook's Apps and Websites or Business Integrations settings, or the corresponding Instagram controls. Revoking access does not by itself remove information already retained by View PGH. To request deletion of that information, follow the instructions below.

6. Sharing and service providers

We share information with providers as needed to operate the features you use, with authorized staff reviewing submissions or requests, when you direct us to publish or share it, or when disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety.

Providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. External stores, social networks, and services you visit through links have their own policies. We do not sell or rent personal information.

  • Clerk: account authentication, sign-in security, and session management.
  • Replit and storage infrastructure providers: website hosting, databases, uploaded media, and operational logs.
  • Google services: Gmail for staff communications and inquiry notifications; Drive for connected editorial or archive files; Google Fonts for loading the site's typography.
  • Stripe: payment processing and connected payout features, including transaction and verification information required by Stripe.
  • YouTube, Meta, and TikTok: video or social embeds, where used. These providers may receive visit and device information. YouTube embeds use the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain where supported.

7. Cookies and browser storage

The site and authentication provider use cookies or similar storage to support sign-in, security, and preferences. Embedded third-party services may use their own cookies. Blocking cookies or external content may prevent some features from working.

Some forms can keep temporary recovery drafts in your browser tab. Story or submission recovery copies expire after one hour; profile recovery copies expire after 24 hours. These are not permanent backups. Uploads, upload references, and consent are not restored from submission recovery copies.

You can clear cookies and site storage through your browser settings. The website does not currently include an advertising pixel or a session-recording tool; hosting providers may still process traffic and diagnostic information.

Our first-party website analytics use random browser and session identifiers to measure page visits, referral domains, device categories, active time, scroll depth, and on-site actions. Browsing events are not linked to account identities. Browser identifiers expire after 30 days and sessions reset after 30 minutes of inactivity. No form text, private messages, file contents, credentials, full user agents, IP addresses, or URL queries are stored in these analytics.

For supported YouTube players, we measure anonymous play and pause transitions, reaching the end, and verified elapsed playback seconds using the provider's player API. Seeking, buffering, and unverified gaps do not count as watch time. Reaching the end does not mean every second was watched. Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok embeds are counted only as video opens, not plays or watch time. Video titles and source URLs are not sent with playback events, and playback is never linked to account histories. The same analytics opt-out, Do Not Track, and Global Privacy Control choices apply before playback collection.

You can turn first-party analytics off using the controls on this privacy page. We also honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Opting out stops new browsing collection and clears the analytics identifiers; previously collected anonymous events are removed by scheduled cleanup after 90 days. Contributor submissions, reviews, points, and recorded earnings remain separate operational records.

We keep daily totals of page views, active seconds, browser-days, and session-days for long-term readership comparisons. These totals contain no browser, session, page-visit, or account identifiers and cannot be used to follow a browser across days. Browser-days and session-days are sums of daily counts, not unique visitors or sessions across months or years.

8. Storage, retention, and international processing

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, including running accounts, reviewing submissions, maintaining published content and permissions, fulfilling licenses, resolving disputes, preventing abuse, and meeting legal or financial obligations. Retention varies by record type; there is no single deletion period for all website data.

Deleting data from active systems may not immediately remove copies from backups or provider logs, which are subject to their retention processes. Service providers may store or process information in the United States or other countries, whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

You can edit available profile fields, choose whether to submit optional information, decline to load optional embeds, adjust browser storage settings, and revoke connected-account permissions.

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, obtain a copy of, delete, or restrict the processing of personal information, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise a right. We may need to verify your identity and will respond as required by applicable law.

10. Requesting account or Facebook-data deletion

Email viewpgh@gmail.com with the subject “Privacy or data deletion request.” Tell us whether you want to delete your View PGH account, information received through Facebook or Instagram, or particular submitted content.

Include the email associated with your account and, for a connected Meta account, the relevant Page or account name or identifier so we can locate the records. Do not send passwords, access tokens, payment credentials, or unnecessary sensitive documents.

We review requests manually and may ask for information needed to verify that you control the account or have authority to make the request. After verification, we will delete or de-identify applicable information unless retention is required or permitted by law, for security, for transaction or consent records, or for another legitimate continuing purpose. We will explain material limitations in our response.

Public-content removal requests are assessed in light of applicable privacy law and publication or licensing agreements. Revoking a provider's access and requesting deletion from View PGH are separate steps. You can also request deletion from the provider directly under its own policy.

11. Security

We use authentication, access restrictions, and other reasonable safeguards to protect information. No website, transmission method, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please protect your sign-in credentials and avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

12. Children's privacy

Our account and submission features are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. Additional age or permission requirements may apply to particular submissions or services.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the site or its services change. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised date. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.

For questions, privacy requests, or concerns, contact Bill Bara (Sole Proprietor) at viewpgh@gmail.com, or use the website's contact form.
